So close and yet a world away,
Welcome to Fabulous Henderson Bay!

If you are looking for a beautiful place to unwind, relax, de-stress from city life and have a great holiday, but you do not want to travel far, then look no further for you have just discovered the perfect holiday hideaway that not many people know about!

Situated in the real far north, about 60kms north of Kaitaia and about 60kms south of Cape Reinga, Henderson Bay is just 6kms down a metal road and comes off the main road that runs from Kaitaia to Cape Reinga. Getting here is all a part of the adventure!

The turquoise waters of the Pacific Ocean lap onto this stunning pristine beach on the east coast of the Te Aupouri peninsula and is far calmer than the 90 Mile Beach on the west coast.

The beautiful pink choral sands as well as rock pools and lagoons heated by the sun at low tide, make this an idyllic beach to laze back and enjoy.

The beach itself also caters to a wide range of interests. On calm days the crystal clear waters make it a perfect place for snorkelling and diving, with the lagoon and rock pools exposed at low tide making great places for children to swim and explore the marine life that is at the beach.

Henderson Bay is also known within the surfing community producing surf further down from the swimming areas. Even dolphins enjoy coming here and will sometimes play and surf as well.

As it is very rarely visited by tourists you can often find that you may have the beach nearly to yourself.

If you are here at the right time, you may see the whales going past.

In the Henderson Bay community (population under 30) different types of accommodation are offered. There is a backpackers open during the summer months (October – April), a holiday cottage, a holiday house and a place for camper vans.
